A safety net before the clean-up: tools/smoke.py opens every page of the site in a hidden browser, the way a visitor would, and reports anything that goes wrong: script errors, and the site's own files that fail to load.

It visits the sea, the workshop, the rooftop, the living space and its six side rooms, the template, Mel's room and the view through her window, in whichever resets you ask for (a brand-new visitor for each reset, using ?reset=N).

Needs Playwright once: pip install playwright, then python -m playwright install chromium. Nothing shows on screen, it serves the site itself on its own port, and it never changes a file. Fonts, the weather and Mel's live site on the CRT come from elsewhere and don't count. The grimoire's list.txt 404 (expected on your own computer until a publish) is skipped.

Today: all 8 resets, 104 page loads, all good.

It only checks that pages load cleanly. It doesn't click through scenes yet; checks for specific features can be added as the clean-up touches them.
